Waiting the launch of the new business plan FCA by Marchionne about the near future, planned for 6th,May in Detroit and that in addition to confirmations and new directions for the Group’s brands, it should finally clarify the expected developments of “Alfa Romeo”, meanwhile we comment the results referring to car registrations of Chrysler Fiat Group Automobiles in the first quarter of 2014.
We can not start from Europe that, after the difficult performances of the last years, at last sees the growth of registered cars.
In the annual cumulative the EU+EFTA market has grown overall by 8.1% compared to the first quarter of 2013 (with 3,353,180 million cars).
All major Brands take advantage a bit from this.
In order, Ford +12%, Renault+11%, Peugeot +10%, +9% Audi and Toyota, Opel +8% , BMW+7%, Citroen and Mercedes +5%, Volkswagen+4%. FCA was not from less than, in fact Fiat registered a +2.4% on a quarterly basis, Lancia-Chrysler +4.7% while even Jeep registered a significant 20.2%. The Alfa Romeo compared to the first quarter of 2013, decline by 8, 4%.
The Fiat-Chrysler sees thus the increasing of the overall share, in the first quarter of 2014 by 2.8%, registering 203,824 registrations for vehicles with a share of 6.1%.
This result is certainly been influenced by the “little recovery” by Italian market, but also by the excellent sales trend in UK, even if it still registers results inferior to those of the ante-crisis period.
Looking at the most sailed models in Europe, after Golf, Fiesta, Corsa, Clio, Focus, Polo, Qashqai, Peugeot 208 and Astra, a significant result is been registered by Fiat 500 which places, at the end of the quarter, at the 10th position.
There are been important results even about Fiat 500L.
In the U.S.A. in the meantime, with a market share by 12,71% in the first quarter of this year and a gain, in terms of registrations, by 11.1%, FCA still is increasing its growth already started in 2010.
Considering the positive trend about the sales of Dodge-Ram Brand and in particular of Jeep Wrangler, Cherokee e Grand Cherokee, the Group should reach the goal of 2 million cars registered, in 2014, in the U.S.A.
We must consider the good start of 500L (2,952 units in 3 months) with the consequent decline of 500 classic (8.473 cars).
In India, even thanks to the renew Fiat gamma, that are the Avventura Concept, The Contemporary Urban Vehicle (CUV) for a young target, the 500 Abarth, Linea and Punto, there are been satisfying results which, even with still modest volumes (4,190 first quarter), lead to an increase in the share of 314% despite to 2013.
According the other main global markets, we must underline a decline by the Brazilian one in the first quarter, both with the total sales (583.264 -4.9%), and with the market share of Fiat that, with 125,914 cars, gains -12,5%. “On the contrary” there are been positive results for the commercial vehicles of the Group which grow by 40% as opposite to the last year.
At last but not least, the Chinese market, where it has arrived a few days ago the news, to Fiat, about the permission of the authorities to start with the “local” production of the Jeep, thanks to a joint venture between Fiat & Gac.
Positive signs come also from the first results of the recent Fiat Ottimo launch; in the first three months of the year the sales are been respectively 150, 731, and 2,812 units.
Even in this case, the trend is very promising and bodes well for a significant increase. Of note is a significant increase in sales of Fiat Viaggio, that in the first three months has accumulated 13,477 sales.
The “march” of Maserati continue and we wait in short to know the result!
